What is PRC?

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) oversees many professions in the Philippines. It was established in 1973 to supervise the interests of more than four million professionals across 43 regulated professions. Additionally, it is pivotal in managing the licensure examinations for hundreds of thousands of aspiring professionals annually.

What is a Professional Identification Card?

You might have heard of PRC ID or PIC interchangeably. But what does this card hold in your career?

PRC ID Meaning

PRC license, PRC ID, or Professional Identification Card (PIC) are all the same. It is tangible evidence that the cardholder is a registered professional in the Philippines. Also, it means that the holder has the legal authority to practice their respective profession. The PRC ID is issued to highly skilled professionals, including architects, engineers, doctors, nurses, dentists, accountants, and veterinarians.

A PRC ID signifies that you are in good standing. Also, it indicates that your PRC license has no signs of being withdrawn or revoked.

Your PRC ID is a legitimate government-issued ID. You can use it for various transactions with government agencies, financial institutions, and other organizations. Moreover, it is a prerequisite in job applications for roles like nurse, physical therapist, teacher, librarian, accountant, etc.

When applying for your national ID, you can also present your PRC ID as a valid form of identification.

Reminder!

Today, a digital copy of your PRC ID is also considered valid for identification purposes.

What is the Meaning of CPD Units?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. It is the ongoing process of maintaining and enhancing a professional’s skills and knowledge. It is a vital practice that should be consistently pursued throughout your career. However, it is irrespective of whether you are at the initial stages or have accumulated years of experience in your field.

The CPD policy has been in effect since the PRC amended certain sections of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the CPD Act of 2016, as outlined in PRC Resolution No. 2019-114610. Engaging in CPD contributes to career advancement. Also, it enables you to make a meaningful impact in your role and enhance the quality of your service.

The PRC specified the implementation of a transition period for adherence to the CPD Law. As a result, professionals are currently permitted to renew their PRC IDs even if they still need to satisfy the mandatory CPD unit requirements fully.

CPD Units

CPD units serve as metrics for your involvement in educational activities to sustain, develop, or enhance your professional competence and expertise. The equivalence is 1 CPD unit to 1 hour of actual learning time devoted to an activity. The specific requirement for CPD units varies depending on your profession.

As an illustration, nurses must obtain 15 CPD units every three years, whereas accountants must amass 15 CPD units every two years.

You can accrue CPD units by participating in development programs like seminars and graduate studies. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, online courses and webinars are also available.

Is a PRC License renewal possible without CPD unit requirements?

Indeed, you can renew your PRC license even if you lack or have incomplete CPD units. As of October 2022, the PRC has extended the acceptance of CPD undertaking for PRC license renewal. Now, you can renew your PIC until December 31, 2023.

The full enforcement of the CPD unit requirement by the PRC will only take effect after December 31, 2023. However, the CPD Undertaking is only temporary. If you have submitted a CPD Undertaking, you must still fulfill the CPD requirements during the subsequent renewal cycle.

  • Dress in formal or business attire.
  • Maintain a white backdrop throughout the ceremony.
  • Access the invitation link sent to your email. Be in the meeting 15 minutes before the online oath-taking begins. For instance, if your ceremony is at 10:00 AM, the waiting period is from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM. Latecomers are not welcome.
  • Use only one device. Do not share the link details with unauthorized individuals. Inductees using multiple names or appearing more than once in the list of participants equated to have shared the link with unauthorized individuals. It clearly violates the rules and results in automatic disqualification from the online oath-taking. As a result, you cannot be readmitted. Still, you can schedule a new oath taking appointment.

Step 9. Take your Oath.

The online oath-taking ceremony will follow this sequence:

  • Invocation
  • National Anthem
  • Welcome Remarks
  • Roll Call of the Inductees
  • Recital of the Professional’s Oath
  • Closing Remarks

Participants must maintain proper decorum throughout the event. During the online oath-taking, you should not leave the video conference, raise your voice, answer phone calls, or engage in distracting activities. Also, keep your audio on MUTE mode, except when participating in the recital of the professional’s oath.

Reminder!

You can apply for a new schedule if absent during your online oath-taking ceremony. However, be ready to spend more for rescheduling.

Quick Tips for PRC ID Online Registration and Renewal

Despite the steps indicated in the above discussion, you must consider these practical ways when applying for your PRC license.

Schedule in Advance

PRC implemented the No Same-Day Appointment policy. If you make an online transaction, you cannot schedule appointments on the same day you initiate it. Its purpose is to streamline and organize the PRC appointment system.

By disallowing same-day appointments, the PRC can manage the influx of individuals seeking various services, such as initial registration, license renewal, or other transactions that require a visit to the PRC office. Therefore, you must plan your visits.

Online scheduling prevents overcrowding. Also, it saves you from the agonizing waiting time. It is one of the protocols as the pandemic lightens. So, the PRC can allocate resources effectively and manage queues.

Beware of Fixers

It is a cautionary statement commonly emphasized by government agencies. Fixers expedite and facilitate various government processes like the PRC. They often claim to have remarkable connections or influence to ensure favorable outcomes.

If you ask for a fixer’s help, you are at risk of fraud and legal consequences. Also, fixers use illegal practices. It violates the strict PRC policies and compromises the integrity of the licensure process.

Being cautious of fixers is crucial for individuals dealing with the PRC. It ensures a lawful, transparent, and smooth application or renewal process. Always be informed about official procedures and report fixers.

Be Aware of Online Traffic

The PRC online registration system is vital. Every day, it experiences a high volume of user traffic. While it offers convenience and efficiency, users may encounter particular challenges. Sometimes, you will experience automatic logouts from the system.

Although automatic logouts can be a minor inconvenience, you can still navigate the PRC online registration system more smoothly. Plan your transactions during off-peak hours. In addition, be prepared with all the details needed beforehand. It saves you from time-out. Also, seeking assistance when needed gives you a better experience.

Nevertheless, the PRC commits to continuous improvement. It contributes to a more efficient and user-friendly online registration experience over time.

Conclusion

Applying for a PRC ID is now more convenient—all thanks to the introduction of PRC online services. You don’t have to deal with the hassle and time-wasting just to schedule an appointment.

The best part is you can pay off the PRC registration and renewal fees with Cash Mart. Its low-interest personal loan helps you in processing your PRC license. So you can still finance your appointment in the PRC even though you still don’t have a paycheck.

Your PRC ID serves as more than proof of your legal right to practice your profession—it is a testament to your determination and passion. Congratulations!

Is Oath Taking Ceremony necessary for a PRC ID?

Oath-taking is an obligatory process. All registrants must participate to get their PRC license and Certificate of Registration (COR). However, various factors can prevent you from attending your scheduled ceremony. It can be the expense of the mass oath-taking attendance. Or you may have work commitments. Or worse, you encounter unforeseen circumstances.

Luckily, you can still have your COR and PRC ID. The initiation of the process is possible only after a lapse of five working days from the mass oath-taking date. Then, visit the PRC office. Approach the designated window or office and request a special oath-taking with the relevant Board.

Explain the reasons for your absence. You must provide the necessary documentation, such as your claim slip for registered passers or a notarized Oath form for non-registered passers.

Following this, you will partake in an individual oath-taking in the presence of a PRC officer. You will perform the ceremony inside an office or at a designated window. But it depends on the PRC branch. Once the ceremony ends, the PRC staff will release your PRC ID and COR.

What to Do if I Lost my Notice of Admission (NOA)?

If you cannot attend your appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, contact the PRC Helpdesk or the specific PRC office you selected for further assistance.
